Ras Shiloh, born Thomas Williams in New York City, started his career in the music industry at the young age of nine years old. He started out working with the soundsystem Bally’s International across the East coast. Since then his six albums and hundreds of singles and collaborations have garnered him fans and accolades worldwide.
As a teen he spent time in Jamaica honing his skills & released his debut “Ras Shiloh & Idrens Chants”album, (1997) showing the world his golden voice, range, and firm commitment to righteousness. His voice has been compared to the late Reggae great Garnett Silk. 1998 brought his self-produced debut solo album, “Babylon You Doom”. Now out of print, the rare “Babylon You Doom” is being digitally remastered and will be repressed this year. In 1999 He released Listen Well, an experimental reggae album that included a reggae cover of the 80’s hit “Tainted Love”.
The following years were spent working with the top producers in Jamaica and in 2002 “From Rasta To You” was released on the VP Records label. The release – featuring his hits “Are You Satisifed?”, Garnett Silk’s “Complain” cover, and “Give I Strength” (feat. Buju Banton) were critically acclaimed. “Are you Satisfied?” is still being spun in the Dancehall by DJ’s worldwide. Five years later in 2007, two classic reggae albums dropped: “Only King Selassie” was released on the Greensleeves/VP Records label, and “Coming Home” on the
VP Records label.
His collaborative works include the some of Reggae’s most beloved artists:
Anthony B., Morgan Heritage, Jr. Kelly, Capleton, Lutan Fyah, Gentleman, Bascom X, and more. What sets Ras Shiloh apart from other singers in the Lover’s Rock genre of Reggae is his ability to seamlessly blend love songs with more righteous anthems and calls to action for Universal love. Disconcerted with the general direction of Dancehall music these days, Ras Shiloh has an even firmer commitment to encouraging his listeners to rise up and love one another all the while loving the almighty JAH.
2012 Found him back in Jamaica, recording new tracks for his upcoming release (2013), and performing all over the island with Queen Ifrica, Tony Rebel, and more. 2013 is sure to be a busy year as well as Ras Shiloh is performing at the 20th anniversary Rebel Salute concert on January 18th in Jamaica. He is also releasing his long-awaited seventh album, playing at SummerJam in Germany in August, touring the US and Europe, and continually recording/performing all over the world.
